Frequently Asked Questions

How is an ambulatory surgery center different than a hospital?
We have the same nursing stations, surgical areas and sterile environment that you would find in a hospital. Our center is proud to have been awarded the prestigious accreditation with commendation from JCAHO, a recognition of our center’s adherence to the same rigorous standards as hospitals across the country. Because our center is smaller and more intimate, you will also find the privacy and personalized care that you need for a more pampered recovery. We have designed the center for your comfort. If you have family or friends who will be waiting to drive you home, there are quiet and relaxing areas for their wait.

What will I find at AASC?
Your first stop at our center will be our soothing waiting room. The TV and library of videos are available for you or for your family and friends accompanying you. Inside the surgical areas are procedure rooms equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment. After your procedure is completed, we have a comfortable recovery room for your recuperation. The beds are in full view of the uniquely angled nursing station. The convenient step down unit provides for a complete and pampered recovery.

What happens in the surgery center?
Our examinations include careful visual inspection. For most procedures, patients undergo "twilight sleep," a gentle sedation in which they are conscious, can respond to questions, and feel very relaxed. In some cases, the patients’ throat is numbed, like at the dentists’ office. Because of advances in medical technology, procedures are very direct, efficient, and short.

How do I prepare for my procedure?
Your physician will inform the nursing staff about the specific preparation for your exam. You will receive a written instruction sheet. The nursing staff will review these instructions a day or twobefore your procedure. However, if you have any questions, please call us at 410-224-3636.

How do I pay for my procedures?
We participate with most major health plans. There are three fees associated with procedures performed at AASC. The professional fee covers the physician’s care and the facility fee covers the care and supplies used during your stay at our center. Any necessary laboratory fees will be charged separately. Our knowledgeable personnel will help streamline the process for you. Our billing staff can be reached by calling 410-266-1588.
